Our In-Town Program is for Grades PreK through 6th grade. We emphasize FUN, sportsmanship, friendship, growth of soccer skills, and appreciation of the sport. We currently have over 350 players in our In-Town (recreation) program. We are associated with Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), and our program follows the USYSA player development philosophy which focuses on small sided games for the youngest players and a gradual transition to full field play for our older participants. This philosophy is thought to be the way to best develop youth for the game while ensuring a positive, fun and safe environment for them.

Players Grade 3 to Grade 6 have two options within Mansfield Youth Soccer. For players looking for a more competitive experience can join the Travel Soccer Program. Our Travel teams play other towns and typically have one or two practices a week. For more information on the Travel Program please visit the Travel Page.
Players that are looking for a less competitive experience can continue in the In-town program. This Division is perfect for the player that wants to continue to play soccer without the commitment for traveling to other towns. Teams are Co-ed and games are full field, full length soccer games. Games are played on 7 v 7 or 9 v 9 fields, with referees. Players use a size 4 soccer ball in Grades 3-6.
Each team has a Head Coach and at least one Assistant Coach. Any parent may volunteer to be a Coach. All adult volunteers must supply their date of birth on the player registration form; this is required for CORI checks to be done by MYSA. If you are interested in Coaching, please contact our In-Town Director and you will be directed to the appropriate Age Group Coordinator.
All players must have the following with them at each session:
- In-Town Uniform which consists of reversible jersey, socks and shorts (see ordering information in the section below)
- Shin pads
- Sneakers or Cleats (cleats are not required, but are recommended and cannot be metal.)
- Appropriate size Soccer Ball (labeled with your name)
- Water Bottle (labeled with your name)
- NO jewelry is allowed including bracelets, necklaces and earrings
- Soft hair accessories ONLY
The uniform consists of a reversible green/white jersey, black shorts and black socks. New uniforms can be ordered and purchased at the time of Registration. Uniforms are distributed through the Coaches at the beginning of each season. Any orders placed outside of the registration process must be ordered through the Equipment Director and payment must be made before the receipt of the uniform. In the event that there is an error in the registration listing of uniforms ordered, please reach out to your Coach who can work with the In-Town Director and Equipment Director.
In-Town Spring Jamboree
On the last weekend of the Spring Season, we hold our Annual Spring Jamboree. It’s a celebration of the year and all that we’ve learned. Teams play short games against each of the other teams in their Division. (There is NO practice prior to the game play.) Some teams will also have a Parent v Kid game.
In the last 10-minutes of the Jamboree session, we take a moment to recognize each team, thank each Coach/Assistant Coach, and enjoy a special treat.
Please note: A Fall Only Player may attend the Spring Jamboree and receive an award too. Please notify your Coach ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly.
DOB Default Age Guidelines
To be Used while Registering Your Player
MYS arranges players by grade. Divisions may be mixed and is dependent upon how many players register in each age group.
Age groups are based on Grade. This allows your children to play with their classmates. You can use the chart below to help you place your child appropriately.
Sept 2022 – June 2023 Season Age Chart: (Age Group division is based on Grade and DOB)
|Grade – Sept 2021||Born on or before|
Important: System limitations have resulted in potential glitches (primarily with older children in each age group) which may require MYS manual assistance. So please use the above chart when completing your online registration.
If online registration options are not in agreement with the above chart, please email our Registrar at email@example.com to complete your registration.
Any complaints about a player who is too old or too young for their division will be taken seriously and may result in that player being shifted to their appropriate age cutoff date.
